The Ada Lovelace Centre (ALC) uses IRIS computing and data infrastructure to develop and apply advanced data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to scientific challenges arising across STFC’s major research facilities and programmes. Working with facilities including ISIS, Diamond Light Source, the Central Laser Facility and astronomy projects, the ALC develops methods that help researchers process, analyse and interpret increasingly large and complex scientific datasets. IRIS resources support the development, testing and deployment of AI-enabled workflows, data analysis tools and machine-learning models that can accelerate scientific discovery, improve experimental efficiency and enable new approaches to extracting knowledge from data. By bringing together expertise in data science, scientific computing and experimental research, the ALC helps ensure that STFC facilities and their user communities can benefit from the latest advances in artificial intelligence and computational methods.
