The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) is a leading international centre for nuclear physics research, using high-energy electron beams to investigate the structure of atomic nuclei and the fundamental behaviour of matter. Through IRIS, UK researchers involved in Jefferson Lab experiments benefit from computing, storage and data-management infrastructure that supports the processing, distribution and analysis of large experimental datasets. A particular focus is CLAS12 (CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer), one of the laboratory’s flagship experiments, which produces substantial volumes of data that must be reconstructed, simulated and analysed by internationally distributed research teams. IRIS resources enable UK scientists to participate effectively in CLAS12 data processing and analysis activities, while also providing expertise in distributed computing, data management and long-term data stewardship. This support helps ensure that UK researchers can contribute fully to the scientific programme and exploit the rich datasets produced by one of the world’s premier nuclear physics facilities.
