LSST Telescope

The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is a ten-year astronomical survey being carried out by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. The survey is designed to repeatedly image the entire visible southern sky, creating an unprecedented time-domain record of the Universe. LSST will generate vast volumes of data, enabling research across a wide range of scientific areas including dark matter and dark energy, the structure and evolution of the Milky Way, transient astronomical events, Solar System objects, and the discovery of previously unknown phenomena. The UK is a major international partner in LSST, contributing expertise in data management, computing infrastructure, software development and scientific exploitation.
