The Wide Field Astronomy Unit (WFAU) at the University of Edinburgh is a world-leading centre for the curation, management and exploitation of large astronomical survey datasets. WFAU develops and operates major scientific archives that enable researchers to discover, access and analyse data from some of the world’s largest sky surveys. Its expertise spans astronomical databases, data archiving, catalogue generation, data discovery services and large-scale scientific data management. Through its engagement with IRIS, WFAU contributes valuable experience in managing petabyte-scale datasets, delivering data services to international research communities and developing the infrastructure required to support data-intensive astronomy. These capabilities help ensure that complex astronomical datasets remain accessible and scientifically valuable to researchers around the world.
