The CernVM File System (CVMFS) is a globally distributed software delivery system that enables researchers to access scientific software and reference data consistently across many different computing environments. Originally developed to support high-energy physics experiments, CVMFS is now widely used across a range of scientific disciplines and infrastructures. Rather than requiring software to be installed and maintained separately on every computing resource, CVMFS provides a shared, read-only software repository that can be accessed on demand.
